Computer Associate Technical Support (CATS)
DCAS has issued a Notice of Examination for the Computer Associate Technical Support (CATS) title that is represented by CWA Local 1180. The exam is being offered as both a promotional and open competitive exam.
The Trustees of the Education Fund have arranged to offer a CATS exam prep course on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., and on weekday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 6 Harrison Street, New York, NY 10013.
The course work will be offered in 3 segments: SEGMENT 1 - COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY
This 6-hour hands-on segment is being conducted in our labs and will consist of visual and hands-on demonstrations and exercises on circuit boards, processors, chips, computer hardware and software.

This 28-hour segment consists of supervisory practices and principles and scenarios and will be offered onsite, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and available online for members with an 1180 Online Account.
SEGMENT 2 - This 16-hour segment will consist of multiple-choice exercises on supervisory practices and principles.
SEGMENT 3 - This 12 hour segment will include practical applications of computer technology, business and managerial principles, resource allocation, and coordination of people and resources.

NYS Department of Civil Service
Most examinations are held periodically. Some examinations are held on a continuous recruitment basis. This means that applications are accepted continuously, qualified applicants are tested on an as-needed basis and successful candidates' names are added to the eligible list continuously.
State civil service written tests are conducted in various locations throughout the state, usually in schools or colleges. Promotion and Transition Examinations
The New York State Department of Civil Service offers the opportunity to apply for these examinations online. Candidates may also apply for these examinations using NYS-APP
or at NYS Civil Service Outreach and Information Center
. Continuous Recruitment Promotion Examinations
Applications for Continuous Recruitment examinations are accepted continuously, with no application deadline. Examinations are conducted for positions where there is an almost constant need for qualified individuals. How to Apply for Exams

New York City School Construction Authority
The New York City School Construction Authority is subject to the New York State Civil Service Law and oversight by the New York State Civil Service Commission, not the New York City Civil Service System. The NYC SCA is responsible for administering its own civil service system in accordance with applicable New York State laws.
All SCA positions are part of the Civil Service system. Positions in the competitive class require interested individuals to file and take a civil service examination and score high enough on the list to be reached for appointment.
