Individual Benefit Reviews


Benefits in Brief:

Optical-Your Optical Benefit includes one eye exam and one pair of prescription eyeglasses (or contact lenses) per person, per calendar year. You may   use one of the 3 providers (General Vision, Vision Screening or Comprehensive Professional Systems) for the inclusive benefit package. A maximum benefit of $125 per person, per calendar year is provided if you use your own optometrist. A maximum of four claims per family, per calendar year. Mondays December 4, 11-Your Mac and You -Finally, a class just for Mac users! You'll learn the Mac way of doing things (which is much simpler than Windows), including email, photos, cool apps, music, iCloud, backing up, and much more! Time: 1:00pm-3:00pm

Friday December 1 -Holiday Kick-Off -Join fellow retirees and retiree staff as we start our holiday decorating! Holiday Refreshments Served.Time: 10:30am -1:00pm

 

Monday December 4-Diabetes Education-Come down and learn what Diabetes means for you and how to take control of your health.  Learn about the right foods to eat along and play fun games with prizes.  Nutritionist and diabetes educator Erin Reddan, from Emblem Health will facilitate the workshop. Time: 10:30 am -12:00pm.   Healthy diabetes friendly refreshments served.

 

Wednesday December 6-Excel for Seniors - for your Home, Business or Organization-We’ll keep it simple and cover spreadsheet basics, how use automatic calculations, make a budget and create charts and graphs. Don’t have Excel? You’ll find out about FREE alternatives for your computer, tablet AND smartphone! Time: 10:00 am-2:00pm

 

Thursday December 7-Photography Trip to New Haven for Yale University Art Gallery and Amazing Pizza -The Yale University Art Gallery is an art museum housed in several buildings on the campus of Yale University. The museum’s collection spans all periods and cultures, but is especially strong in its works of African sculptures, American fine arts, Italian paintings, and modern art. Afterwards, we’ll try New Haven’s famous “APizza”, reputed to be the world’s best pizza! (Not into Pizza? Other choices are available at the restaurants.)WE ARE MEETING AT GRAND CENTRAL STATION AT 9:00am AND TAKING THE 9:35am TRAIN TO NEW HAVEN. Train ride is 2 hours. Fare EACH WAY: $8.75 (adults); $6.00 (seniors). Then we’ll take the FREE Union Station Shuttle to the museum. Return trip: 3:25pm to Grand Central.

 

Wednesday December 13- Uber, Lyft and Airbnb - What They Are, and How to Safely Use Them-The “sharing economy”- ride sharing, car sharing, home sharing has boomed in the last few years. Come learn how to set them up on your computer and smartphone and use them.  Learn the rules and your rights and what you should watch out for. Time: 10:00 am-2:00pm

 

Wednesday December 13 -Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes -This is where the unmistakable spirit of Christmas in New York City comes alive. If you have not seen this show it’s a must and if you have seen it, keep the tradition and come again! Location: 1260 6th Avenue between 50 & 51st Street. Tickets must be picked up in advance. Popcorn and soft beverage included. Time: 2:00pm Orchestra seats! Price: $55.00

 

Thursday December 14- Retiree Benefit Overview & Brunch- Final Benefit Overview of the Year 2017! Join us as we close out the year and discuss any changes to your NYC Health Benefits & CWA Local 1180 supplemental benefits while having a delicious hot brunch!   Time: 10:30 am- 12:30 pm

Friday December 15 -Restaurant Club - Rocco’s Tacos offers a true taste of Mexico within a fun casual environment. When you first step through the door you become part of the atmosphere, joining a diverse crowd enjoying flavors picked directly from Mexico. Let’s check it out! Tuesday December 19-Bingo & Birthday Wishes -If your birthday falls between September and December, come in and celebrate your birthday while enjoying an afternoon of Bingo!  Benefit related bingo prizes and surprises for all!  What is a party without cupcakes and a special gift for the birthday retiree!Time 1:00pm-3:30pm

 

Thursday December 28-Photography Trip - Historic African American Cemetery next to 2nd Largest Mall in the Metro Area Mount Moore, Nyack’s segregated cemetery is the final home of African American soldiers (and others) who were denied burial elsewhere. It survives despite real estate developers’ attempts to unearth it to build Palisades Center Mall. We will visit this historic site, then walk to the nearby mall for lunch, as well as taking photos inside the huge three-story “industrial-style” structure containing over 200 stores. WE ARE MEETING 10:15AM AT GRAND CENTRAL STATION (at the round information booth) and taking the 10:43am train to Tarrytown. Fare each way: $10.75 (Adults); $7.00 (Seniors). Then taking the Tappan Zee Express Bus (TZx) to Palisades Center. BUS FARE:  Seniors: $1.50, Adults: $3.00 each way.   

 

Friday December 29 -Holiday Lights Spirit Cruise-It’s our New Year’s Eve Eve Party!!  Come celebrate the outgoing of 2017 and the incoming of 2018 with fellow retirees and staff. The Spirit of New York cruise is fun, festive and offers buffet lunch, DJ entertainment and a scenic harbor tour on the Hudson River. Time: Board 11:30am Cruise 12:00pm -2:00pm   Location: Chelsea Pier 61 (Cross Street 23rd & 12th Ave) Price $55.00.
